RealTek NIC Issue

We have a machine that reports the following via lspci:

Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168B PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet controller (rev 06))

However - dmesg shows a problem with the R8169 driver:

r8169 Gigabit Ethernet Driver 2.3KL-NAPI loaded.
r8169: eth0: unknown chipset (mac_Version = 1).
r8169: eth0: link down.

I have searched the forum and have found similar posts - but no explicit resolution.

We are running VM Server 2.2.1

Any help is much appreciated.
