Reading a RFID tag

Within APEX I have created a mobile app which will be wrapped within phonegap. What I need to figure out is how to read a RFID tag on a card via the apex mobile app which will be on a tablet and write back the data to the database.

Any ideas how this is best achieved? When you pass your card over the RFID reader would it be best to use a dynamic action to read the RFID tag and then write back to the database?
