rc script does start oracle

508277May 21 2006 — edited Jan 28 2007
I've had oracle installed, and straight after the install and configure process all seemed to be working OK.
I chose not to start oracle automatically - I want to do this manually.
When I reboot and then try to start (as root) the rc script returns almost immediately, produces no output at all, and no oracle processes are running.

[root@imd610 init.d]# ./oracle-xe start
[root@imd610 init.d]#

Any ideas what to look for?
I'm running on Fedora Core 5, hostname resolve fine and SELinux is off.
