Raw device vs. Block device for ASM

665786Oct 20 2008 — edited Nov 17 2008
I decided to use block device (with ASMLIB) in preparing disks for the ASM disk group.

Someone mentioned "how about using raw device?"

And I thought block device is better than raw.

Is that true?

In terms of disk I/O performance, is there a difference?

What are the major advantages of using one of them?

My non-ASM oracle database is currently running on SUSE Linux.
