RAC nodes out of sync - Time difference

Hi all,

we have a two node oracle 10g R2 RAC installed on SLES 10 SP2 Itanium.
We do not use an NTP for the two nodes to keep them in time sync. On one stand alone SLES server when I started NTP, I found that after a month it had run ahead by 1 minute. We are internally using windows 2003 domain controller as a NTP time server and I am comparing it with my windows desktop and email notification times (from MS-Exchange).

I found today that the time difference between the two nodes is 40 seconds. Is there a thresh-hold parameter set somewhere? Where can I find a document which lists all Oracle RAC concepts. I dont see one on Oracle website. the ones which are available are Installation and administration manuals only.
