Question related to GG and ODI

$a!Jun 20 2017 — edited Jun 29 2017

Dear All,

This might look silly, but I am facing a problem regarding the below question.

When I tried to install Oracle GoldenGate Studio from OTN and installed it, I got ODI(Oracle Data Integrator).

I re-searched, but am still confused if both ODI and GG are one and same.

If both are not same,

Is it because I installed the studio that I am getting ODI? Is there a way to get the GG from the Studio?

can i know the exact path where i can install the GoldenGate.?

I am looking for a UI sort of tool for using Goldengate other than any commanding interface.

Kindly take the trouble of providing me with the exact path of where I can install GG(if GG and ODI are not same).

As I said, this might look silly, but this has become a headache for me.

Kindly help.

Hi ,

Nothing is silly :-) It is always better to clarify the doubts and a good practice too..

Please share the binary which you had installed or downloaded. I need the name of the Binary file.

ORASCN

Hi ,

It seems you have downloaded wrong binaries..

There are two different product's binaries available as below,

1. Oracle Data Integrator Studio

2. Oracle GoldenGate Studio

Oracle GoldenGate Downloads

Oracle GoldenGate Studio 12.2.1.2.6 (1.9 GB)

You need to install Goldengate core first. Studio is just an interface as you pointed out instead of using the command interface. Both of these core and studio has nothing to do with ODI.

So install OGG core using OUI as per your platform/DB. Then install studio.

One thing that I personally will not do with studio. If you want to learn Goldengate do not do it via Studio. You will immense amount of time learning Studio and not GoldenGate. Yep the marketing stuff say"With Oracle GoldenGate Studio, users new to Oracle GoldenGate can start replicating data with minimal effort while experienced users have access to Oracle GoldenGate’s advanced replication options."

This is far from true. I can teach you to do simple capture and delivery in 2 hours. With Studio you can spend a week learning how to use Studio and not learn anything about OGG.

I do very complex OGG replication on many platforms and databases. You will find that at the end of the day you are editing the parameter files to get things done which is the only way to configure OGG or you want to use Studio's 4 layers of clicking over layers of Java code to edit a parameter.

Hii Veera,

Thanks for the reply.

I have downloaded the studio from here:

Oracle GoldenGate Downloads

$a!

Dear Veera,

Both seem to be pointing to same location..

$a!

Dear Gan,

Can you please provide me the exact location from where I can download the Golden Gate core.

By what I understand, you seem to be suggesting me on working with GG core rather than GG studio.

I would also try on that. But, my manager wants it to be through UI interface as with the studio. So, where can i download the GG studio.

Also, if there are any URLs, links on working with GG it would be of great help.

$a!

Dear Gan,

Thanks a ton for the reply.

When navigated through the install steps for GG studio , i found out that oracle is suggesting for installation of Oracle Fusion Middleware Infrastructure software and Oracle Management Pack for Oracle Goldengate.

Are these mandatory?

Also when I went through creating repository steps for GG, the steps and interface are exactly the same as the ones for ODI.

Are both these same in 12c?

Kindly help

K.Gan

If you want a link to install studio see this

http://www.oracle.com/webfolder/technetwork/tutorials/obe/fmw/goldengate/12c/ogg_studio_12c_install/ogg-studio-12c.html#…

The before you begin section you will be asked to install the core, Monitor which in turn needs fusion middleware/weblogic and Java.

Don't worry about ODI, there may be common software that maybe needed and it is not just ODI. A number of Oracle products used fusion middleware.

Hi Veera and Gan,

I am facing lot of issues relating to download of GG.

I have downloaded the below softwares.

Oracle GoldenGate Downloads--->Oracle GoldenGate 12.2.0.1.1 for Oracle on Windows (64 bit)http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/goldengate/downloads/index.html

I first installed goldengate and connected to the database. When trying to connect to a repository, we were asked for manager port ,Agentname, password etc. which we didn't know.

So, we downloaded and installed the monitor from below

Oracle GoldenGate Downloads--->Oracle GoldenGate Monitor 12.2.1.2.0

and somehow through R&D made manager process running successfully.

But, we didn't find Jagent process, when searched for INFO all in the GGSCI command interface.

How to resolve this?

When trying to connect  to the repository with the manager port ,Agentname, password etc.,it is refusing the connection.

We are thinking of uninstalling everything and starting from the scratch. Shall we need to install Monitor first and then golden gate after wards. Do we need to download FMW also? Is there any step-by-step process  for a layman like me?

Please help, as I am completely new to the GoldenGate world.

ORASCN

Hi ,

What exactly your requirement is? Whether you need to install Oracle GoldenGate Studio or Oracle GoldenGate Monitor?

Please let me know your requirement and it would be easy for to guide you..

I thought we need monitor as a part for installing GG studio..

Isn't it so?

We are planning to install GG studio, which is the interface and where we can drag and drop?

We don't need Monitor for that?

Then when installed the GG studio, it is asking for manager port ,Agentname, password etc., , when trying to connect to repository. How to provide them?

ORASCN

Hi Sai,

You don't want to install OGG Monitor. Monitor is a different setup and sub-product of Oracle GoldenGate.

Installation of OGG studio involves the below,

1. Oracle Fusion Middleware 12c GoldenGate Studio Installation

Oracle GoldenGate Studio 12.2.1 – ORACLE-SCN

2. Repository Creation - RCU

Oracle GoldenGate Studio 12.2.1 – Repository Creation Utility (RCU) – ORACLE-SCN

Follow the steps and you can easily install OGG Studio.

Regards,

Veera

K.Gan

Veera suggested an easier way to install Studio. I use the Oracle link that I given you earlier to install. But if the easier way works you can try it.

I have installed GG studio and not GG monitor. But, while trying to create GG instance, it is asking for manager port, Agentport, password etc.

Where and how to provide them?

$a!

Hii veera,

Do you also have any blog/video relating to creating first project/solution in GG studio.?

When trying to create a goldengate instance, it is asking for manager port, agent port and password. Where and how can I provide them.?

K.Gan

As noted in the official Oracle installation tutorial you need the Monitor agent. That is how Studio/Veridata/Monitor/Director/EMCC talks to OGG.

RagavMaddali-Oracle

HI $a!,

<path of ogg installation studio>/oggstudio/bin will have oggstudio.sh and oggstudio.exe file.

As you said there are odi binaries with OGG studio installation.

You need to install and configure goldengate monitor agent so that OGG studio can communicate with goldengate.

Thanks,

Ragav.

ORASCN

Hi ,

Oracle GoldenGate Studio will be installed in a server. The Target systems should have some medium to communicate to this OGG Studio server. This is where the Agent plays the role.

Agent communicates between the Server and the Target systems. You need to install and configure Agent in the Target machines for communication.

Veera

Getting the below error while trying to create Golden Gate instance.

Kindly help.

Also, the agent user name it is asking, is the  Jagent username right?
