Question about redo log file

I know that too small size of Redo Log file cause too frequently switch of redo log, and the large cause too difficulty of recovery.
So my question is:
1, How frequent is more reasonable to get switch?
2, How to check switch time in my DB?
3, If I want to enlarge or shrink redo log file,how? Should I recreate controlfile? Or,create several larger or smaller redo log files,switching logfile to them,drop the old? --Which way is right?
