Querying Date Format Masks

Hey guys :)

I noticed a bug in the oracle forms the other day. Im trying to bring back data that has been previously masked by the forms through a format mask. This field holds a date, and in the database I noticed the standard format is "DD-MON-YY', but on the forms the format mask is MM/DD/YYYY.

My problem is when I go into Enter query mode, and I try to bring records back using the date, I get no data back. Im querying using the format mask of the form which is MM/DD/YYYY.

Im thinking oracle is comparing dates in the database formated the default (DD-MON-YY) to my format mask MM/DD/YYYY there for not bring back information... am I correct? has anyone ever ran into this problem? how do you get around it?

any help would be great :)
