Public and Private ip configuration for RAC in VMWARE

567920May 26 2009 — edited May 26 2009
Hi All,

Host - Windows Xp
Oracle 10.1.0.2
Guest OS - Windows 2003 server

I am practicing Oracle RAC installation in my home machine using VMWARE workstation. I have Installed and created two virtual machines and installed Windows 2003 server.
And i have assigned a ip like

192.168.1.101 rac1
192.168.1.102 rac2

using normal LAN configurations in both the virtual machines. And i am able to ping both the virtual machines between them and also from the Host OS.

Now my doubt is

the private ip is used to communicate(interconnect) between the two nodes of the RAC rite.

the public ip is used to connect to the RAC database from the client or from outside.
Now i dont know whether the ip which i configured is private or public. If it is private IP then how to configure the public IP or if it is public then how to configure the private IP.

Or the public and private IP configuration only differs only in Series.

I searched in google to find the Difference in configuring the public and private ip, but i cant make it correctly.

Please Advice...

TIA,
