PSAPI.DLL problem

mikkNov 30 2006 — edited Dec 1 2006
I've gone through the forum and found people with this problem. But the proposed fix doesn't work (eliminating all but the newest psapi.dll).

The only other psapi.dll I had was for TrendMicro's Officscan. I have not installed IE7 Beta. However, evil MSUpdate forced the production release upon me (this week) when updating after my most recent re-install of xp.

I have VS.NET 2005, Oracle XE, and ODTwithODAC10202.

If I ignore the PSAPI.DLL error and continue, the system seems to work correctly. No error messages. I have Oracle Explorer, Oracle Projects, etc, in VS.NET. However, when I try to connect I get the message stating "Object Reference not set to an object instance."

Am I chasing a red herring by obsessing on this PSAPI.DLL issue? Or is it actually behind the Object Reference error?

BTW: XE seems to be working fine. After fixing tnsnames, lsnrctl status is reporting a listening instance of 'xe'. The web access works fine.

TIA
