Hi, has anyone got any insight to the following questions
Q1. What's the difference between v$database.protection_mode and v$database.protection_level ?
Oracle literature states the protection_level is an aggregate - what does that actually mean when it comes to protection ?
If I have 3 standbys each using a different protection level i.e. MAX PROTECTION, MAX AVAILABILITY and MAX PERFORMANCE, what is the aggregate ?
Q2. Where will the aggregate be shown i.e. only in v$database.protection_level of the primary ?
I have never seen protection_mode and protection_level showing a different value - has anyone seen this ?
Q3. The literature seems to suggest that v$database.protection_mode on the primary is meaningless as it is the value in the standby that indicates the protection mode between the primary and that particular standby ?
Q4. The 10gR2 best practices document for multiple standby databases in Appendix D, p33, makes the following statement
"Regardless of how many standby databases you may have in your configuration, you specify only one protection mode for the configuration"
Surely this is wrong ? You can have one standby using MAX PROTECTION and another using MAX AVAILABILITY !
any clarity greatly appreciated
