Pros and Cons of Using BLOBs
hi,
help required for the following queries
1)iam supposed to design a database for business daily .in their current system , all news articles are stored in OS filesystem .in the new design iam planning to take all those articles in to oracle database. Is it a fair idea to do so ?????management of news articles is the major issue that prompted me to do so .can u please do tell me abt performance issues if any associated with LOBs in Oracle
2) initially i planned to create a table with clob field for storing news articles .but later from client discussions ,came to know that some of these can be in the form of pdf or word doc.now i've 2 options
a) table with a blob field that will hold text files , pdf and other formats (if any )
b) table with a clob field and blob field for storing respective types
please do note that possibilities of having pdf or word doc is very slim but u cant totally avoid it too
can u please tell me which of my options will be good one in terms of gud design & performance ????? would like to know wether any other option is there for me
3) some of the news articles can have images too .right now planning to store images in OS file system.would like to bring the same to database but following issues are there.
a) how to read image in to exact position of image within news article , (both of them will be uploaded individually)before inserting the same in to database
b) For editing purpose , if user selects a news article with image , then actual text and code for image will be there ,which is not advisible .how can i get rid of these
thanks & regards
