Properties box windowing bug
AndrewDNov 8 2011 — edited Nov 15 2011This relates to SQL Developer Data Modeler 3.0.0.665 Build 665 running on MS Windows. Java 1.6.0_11.
When I'm using my laptop at work I use an extended desktop spread over two monitors. At home I use the screen on my laptop only.
If at work I have been using the Data Modeler on the extended screen, i.e. not the one with the task bar on, then when I come to running it on a single screen I find that I cannot view the properties box of any object. I right click an object and choose "Properties" but nothing happens. This confused me for a while until I tried plugging a secondary monitor in and fired up the extended desktop, whereupon I found the properties box hanging in limbo on the second screen.
It seems that even if you don't have a second screen attached when you start SQL Developer Data Modeler the windowing engine still opens the properties box up where it last was, even if you don't have a secondary monitor attached and no way of getting to the box. When I am working at home this is useless as I cannot access the properties box until I connect up a second monitor so I can drag it onto the laptop screen.
When there is no secondary monitor attached all of the properties boxes etc should open up on the laptop monitor, not where they think they should be three feet to the side or 6 inches off the top of the screen.
