progress bar, while Applet ist loading the JAR

I am looking for a possibility to do a progress bar, while the classes and other files packed into a JAR File are loaded. The solution should work with a 1.2 compatible VM or the Microsoft VM and should be fast that the gray rectangle does not appear to long.
I found a commercial example, but without source provided at:

I hope, someone can help. Perhaps with a good example code.
