problems with storagetek's 2530

807557Jul 1 2010 — edited Jul 1 2010
Hi,

We have a Sunfire 4150 with On-Board Internal Raid Controller connected to 4 X 146 GB SAS disks.
This also has an External Raid Controller (Storagetek Eight-Port, External HBA
Model SG-XPCIESAS-R-EXT-Z) connected to a JBOD array ( Storagetek XTA2530 ) which has 5 X 300 GB Hard disk.
When the system is powered on The kernel of External Raid controller starts up first and after POST , it gives the message No logical drives found.
Next the Internal controller bios comes up and shows the 4 hard disks.
Now when we press Ctrl+A and get in to the Raid Controller Bios the internal controller shows all the 4 hard disks.
However the external controller does not show any drives at all.
Once we boot into windows 2008 and run Common Array manager ( in out-of-band mode) it shows the 5 hard disks and allows us to create volumes.
After the above step when booting the external raid controller it shows the disk as 1.39 TB and says no logical disks found and once inside windows the volume created with CAM does not show in disk management utility.
When we boot again, go into bios of raid controller and initialize the drives ( it shows one single volume of 1.39 TB) it initializes with a warning. After this we created an array and rebooted.
Now the volume is shown in the disk management utility BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO FORMAT IT JUST GOES ON FOR HOURS AND THE SYSTEM HANGS.

We tried the same method in linus as well. There when we tried to create file system with mkfs the system will hang.

Can some one help me please.

Thanking you all in anticipation
