Problems accessing certain internet addresses...

StanBykApr 20 2014 — edited May 10 2014

Hi,

This is in some ways a follow up to an older thread where I asked about switching from uln to the public yum server.

But I have now encountered a rather strange problem which has plagued me since a while. I can not access public-yum.oracle.com from my linux machine, although it works from all the other computers in my network.

http://public-yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleLinux/OL6/UEK/latest/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 14] PYCURL ERROR 7 - "couldn't connect to host"

Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: ol6_UEK_latest. Please verify its path and try again

If I use firefox to access public-yum.oracle.com I get:

Unable to connect

By the way I have the same problem with other internet addresses such as ard.de, zdf.de or nba.com

Most other websites/internet addresses seem to work fine.

Do you by any chance know what

public-yum.oracle.com, ard.de, zdf.de and nba.com have in common?

nslookup public-yum.oracle.com results in:

Server:         212.23.6.100

Address:        212.23.6.100#53

Non-authoritative answer:

public-yum.oracle.com   canonical name = public-yum.oracle.com.edgesuite.net.

public-yum.oracle.com.edgesuite.net     canonical name = a1186.g.akamai.net.

Name:   a1186.g.akamai.net

Address: 82.71.193.208

Name:   a1186.g.akamai.net

Address: 82.71.193.217

As I said, this problem is specific to my oracle linux computer and not to any other computers in my network. All IP addresses in my network are static and public ip addresses and nslookup seems to resolve all of these addresses fine. Only when I actually try to access them I can't.

Any help I could get would be very much appreciated!

Thank you,

Robert
