Problem with starting up Oracle® Database Express Edition 10g on Windows XP

549825Dec 4 2006 — edited Dec 6 2006
Six weeks I downloaded Oracle® Database Express Edition 10g Release 2 (10.2) and I was sent a password.

I didn't attempt to run it on my Windows XP until today.

I attempted to follow the instructions in the "Getting Started Guide" in

file:///C:/oraclexe/app/oracle/doc/getting_started.htm#BABDBJBC

which reads:

"At the Database Home Page login window, enter the following information:

Username: Enter system for the user name.

Password: Enter the password that was specified when Oracle Database XE was installed."

When I did this it didn't recognise the userid and/or password.

I ended up redownloading and reinstalling/repairing the system. It noticed that I had already a system loaded on to my machine. There is no option to uninstall on the Programs list (although I could have Removed the Program in the Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel in XP).

Once it had reinstalled, I tried to follow the above instructions again - with the same effect.

Can someone help me?

I find it surprising that everyone uses the same userid ie system.

Nick
