Problem wich 3com network card "3C905CX-TX-NM"

807559Jul 22 2002 — edited Jul 28 2002
I have successfuly installed Solaris 8 on my pc.
During setup, I had to remove my network card since it caused the installation to restart every time.

Windows identifies the network card as 3c905c-tx.
The vendor ID is 10b7 and device ID is 9200.
In the file /boot/solaris/devicedb/master, there is an entry:

pci10b7,9200 pci10b7,9200 net pci elxl.bef "3Com 3C905C-TX-M Fast Etherlink XL 10/100"

On the card itself, there is a tiny label which has:

"3C905CX-TX-NM"

I don't recall if in the file /etc/driver_aliases the matching line was present or I had to add it manually.

However, after the installation is successful, I execute "sys-unconfig".
After restart, when trying to configure the network interface I get:

configuring network interface elx10
ifconfig:Page fault
bad kernel fault at addr=0x2
id=191,pc=0xfea21980, ...
...
...

What does "elx10" means? In the above mentioned files I had "elxl"?
Has anybody had this trouble with this exact same card before?
Am I doomed not having a network with Solaris with this card or should I buy another network card?

P.S.
I had to install xf86 drivers for my Nvidia Geforce4 video card.
I don't know if this may have an impact or not.
