Problem while copying a date value to another date text item

Hi all,
I have a form in forms 6i, and I have two items of type date. I enter a value e.g. 10/29/03 0430AM into the first date type text item and want to get the same value into my second date type text item. I am using a when-validate trigger to get the value from the first text item. It copies correctly the date portion of the first text item but rounds the time to 1200AM i.e. 10/29/03 1200AM which I don't want. Actually I need to get the exact value as I enter in the first text field with exact time. Could anyone help in this regard to resolve this issue.
