Problem Installing Oracle 9i database on Windows XP Professional

64098Jan 22 2004 — edited Sep 14 2006
I have not been able to perform a clean installation of the latest download of the Oracle 9i Database on a new Dell Pentium 4, 2.66 gigahertz, Windows XP Professional computer. The computer has 50 gig of available space, 512 ram, and it's virtual memory is set to in initial size of 768 Mb with a maximum size of 1536mb. This computer was purchased in Dec 2003, and is a relatively clean computer with no other database or webserver software on it.

I unzipped the three downloaded Oracle 9i files into c:/install/Disk1, c:/install/Disk2, and c:/install/Disk3, shutdown virus and firewall protection, and choose all the default installation options to install a personal Oracle Database.

Everytime I reach the database configuration step, I get the same error message which is: TNSLSNR.exe has encountered a problem... The installation process nonetheless indicates that the database configuration step finished successfully.

Then the installation process continues into the Intelligent Agent configuration step. This step constantly fails. I get this message: Agent Configuration assistant failed, Parameter "orahome"=c:\oracle\ora92 and also Parameter "Nodeinfo"=NO_VALUE.

Then I click finish from the installation process and reboot.

When the system comes up again, the Oracle Intelligent service hangs forever, and eventually dies on its own accord.

I can access SQL*Plus and it seems to be working okay.

When I used the Net Configuration Assistant, I get the same error everytime which is TNSLSNR.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.

So How do I fix these two main problems:
Problem 1: TNSLSNR.exe has encountered a problem and nees to close
Problem 2: The Oracle<Home>Agent could not be started
Parameter "orahome"=c:\oracle\ora92
Parameter "nodeinfo"=NO_VALUE

Any ideas out there?
