Problem booting Intel Solaris 8.0 on 2'cd hard drive

807559Aug 26 2001
I have installed Solaris 8.0 in partition p3 (primary, bootable) on HD2.

(1) After setting HD2 as bootable in the BIOS I am confronted with the
Device Configuration Assistant sequence and have to go through a long
series of configuration screens before I am able to boot the OS. This didn't
happen previously when I had Solaris installed on HD1. How do I
deactivate the DCA?

(2) I have also attempted to boot Solaris with a 3'rd party boot loader
(XOSL/Ranish Partman with HD1 bootable). This worked when Solaris
was installed on HD1. However now, although XOSL still brings up the
Solaris boot loader screen, selection of the Solaris entry soon causes
the system to reboot and in fact it is not possible to enter the Solaris
boot sequence this way. I wonder if I am missing some configuration
option when setting up Solaris?

If anyone can help me set up Solaris on HD2 I would be much obliged.
Thankyou,

PS I have Linux installed in p1 of HD2 and Linux swap on HD1.
Ranish Partition Manager shows no apparent problems with the
partitions...
