Primary and Standby - Different DB versions

Dear DBA Friends,

I have my primary running on 11.2.0.4 and standby on 11.1.0.7. However, "compatible" is set to "11.1.0.7" in both databases.

I get "ORA-16039: RFS request version mismatch" error on the stand by site.

Does my Primary and Standby must run on same DB software version? Is there a work around for this?

Primary was upgraded to 11.2.0.4 a few weeks back.
