Presentation Server Crash

724446Nov 15 2011
Hi Gurus,

We have an issue with presentation service crash which when analyzed, we came to know that it was happening due to insufficient memory to the OBIEE application.

And the presentation service log stamps the below content:
*1) Unexpected std::bad_alloc in handler thread. Propagating bad_alloc and trying to shutdown thread.*
*2) ThreadPool<SocketRPCServer>: Worker thread encountered std::bad_alloc in loop. Terminating thread.*

Oracle strongly suggests the below 2 solutions:

1) Enabling the /3GB switch in boot.ini file at the server level.
2) Enabling couple of system environment variable at the server level (i.e SIEBEL_MEMORY_THREADALLOC_QUOTA = 67108864 (64MB) and SIEBEL_MEMORY_ALLOCATOR = 1)

I need your inputs to be shared if anyone has implemented these changes and seen any issues after implementing the /3GB switch in your environment with respect to application behaviours.
Quick response will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Amit
