POS Java, Cash Drawer

Im not sure of the correct board to post this on so please excuse me if this is the wrong place. I'm writing a Point of Sale program for a local business and I need to have the cash drawer open. Has anybody tried doing something like this? I'm not even sure where to start? Thanks for the help and ideas.
