On March 7, 2016 Oracle ACE Director Sten Vesterli published Concrete is Dead on his blog. Don't let the title fool you -- the post is not about building materials. The following quote gets to the heart of the issue:
“In IT, we have been talking about software engineering for the 30 years I’ve been in the business. But we are even further from being an engineer's profession than we were 30 years ago.”
If a statement like that doesn't warrant further discussion, what does?
As soon as I read Sten's post I told him I wanted to do a podcast around the topic, and asked him to suggest a few panelists. Oracle ACE Kim Berg Hansen and Oracle ACE Director John King were on Sten's list and responded to the invitation.
At about the same time I started an OTN Community discussion on the topic. Oracle ACE Associate Phil Wilkins was one of the first to share his thoughts in that discussion, so I invited him to join the podcast panel as well.
The program was recorded on Monday April 25, 2016.
