PMON removing processes

Hi,

as far as I understood PMON takes care of the background processes and additionally removes processes which ended abnormal or which have been killed.
My question is, when will PMON removes such abnormal ended processes? Is there any kind of timeout that is responsible for that or depends it from the OS?
No profiles or something will be used I'm interested in the default values?
