Pls help: single RAC node shutdown makes all other nodes reboot

Hi all,

I'm newbie to Oracle/RAC and apologize for newbie questions in advance.

We've a 3 nodes RAC cluster, running Oracle 11gR1 on AIX 6.1. One day, we tried to reboot '1st' node for maintenance. After the shutdown command was issued on 1st node, the other 2 nodes began to reboot. Meanwhile, the shutdown process on the 1st node was 'hanged' somewhere in the middle and have to force reboot manually. We've no idea why since we simulate the complete sequence afterwards but can't simulate the problem.

The same problem occurred on another 2 node RAC cluster with the same versions of software/OS running. Again, repeating the shutdown comamnd can't simulate the problem.

One thing in common is both clusters had been running for over 80 days and quite heavily loaded when the problem occurred.

I tried to dig into RAC daemon logs but have no idea.

Would anyone please help?

Thanks a lot.

/ST Wong
