The following is a copy of the communication held between Oracle and me. It is not my intent to rag on Oracle but this issue is an important one to consider when deciding to run cmsdk on any server. As to the advice given by oracle to run the domain controller as a service, I have tried using srvany to create a service using various user accounts(including administrator). It still fails.

ME: I want to be able to log off as administrator and still have iFS run. Everything else in the appserver remains running and I would like iFS to do the same.

ORACLE SUPPORT: What are you logging out of, when iFS stops? If you are referring to the OS, then iFS would crash.

The domaincontroller has to be started by the administrator, once you logout, then it would kill the
DC.

ME: Sorry for the confusion. Yes, the os. Is there a work around to this or must the administrator always be logged in?

ORACLE SUPPORT: You must be logged in as administrator. Otherwise it will crash when you logout.

ME : Just to reiterate, I must always have the administrator logged in to
our production server if I want iFS to run. I don't know any network administrator that would allow this proposition for security reasons. I can't believe Oracle would do this with out some workaround.

ORACLE SUPPORT: There was a bug filed against this, Development closed it as not a bug, but rather an enhancement request.

here is the bug
2665992IFS SHUTS DOWN WHEN LOG OFF BOX WHERE IFS IS INSTALLED

There are some unsupported workarounds mentioned. Again, these are unsupported. If you can see the bug, you can see some that are mentioned.

ME : I can't find the bug through either the bug search or the metalink search. If possible, can you send me either a file or add it to this tar? If this has been determined added functionality, has it been addressed in later versions... 903 or 904?

ORACLE SUPPORT: Here is one update from a developer

This is not a bug, but an enhancement request. It is correct that when you log off everything stops. The options are:
.
- run as a service.

As far as the enhancement request, these have to be filed by the customer via metalink. When creating a service request, there should be an option to specifiy it as an enhancement request.

ME: I thought you said that it has already been determined an enhancement. I want to know if the "enhancement" is included in ifs903 or 904.

ORACLE SUPPORT: Development classified the bug as not a bug, but rather expected behavior. There has not been an enhancement request filed for this issue.
