Placing Online redo log files in flash/SSD a good idea ?

BlueSkiesJan 14 2016 — edited Jan 14 2016

Version : 11.2.0.4

Platform : Oracle Linux 6.8

Storage : Hitachi VSP (Enterprise Class)

We are going to build around 20 RAC DBs . Our storage team says they can allocate flash disks for Online Redo logs if DBAs really need it.

Online Redo logs are 99.99% write intensive ie. Redo logs are read only during instance recovery. So, we would like to place redo logs in flash/SSD disks. But, my colleague says he didn't notice great improvements when he placed redo logs of a busy DB (Siebel)in SSDs in his previous shop.

So, I would like to seek opinion from OTN community on this.
