pkgadd and pkgrm error : quit in remove-initial state

NemApr 6 2011 — edited Apr 27 2011
I am having problems with pkgadd and pkgrm in a sparse root model zone. during the process of installing some SMC packages, pkgadd fails with the following error

"Warning: Stale lock installed for pkgadd, pkg <package name> quit in analysis state"

rebooting the zone doesn't help. I have also tried deleting the pkg directory from the /var/sadm/pkg but still no luck. The only way around is to blow up the zone and start from scratch but that worked for one zone but i keep getting the same error in another zone after going through a number of pkg installs. Sun/Oracle support was not able to help me with this. I have updated this system with the latest and greatest patches but continue to have the problem.

The current problem started while i was installing the SMCpango package but the prior to that it was a different package.

Has anyone come across this problem ?

Thanks
JB
