Pipeline function in oracle reports

Hi All

I did my interview and interviewer asked me the following questions but unfortunately I didn't answer it. I appreciate if someone answer it for my learning purpose.

Question

Have you ever used pipeline function in Oracle Report , if yes then in which scenario, give some example.
