ping issue with hostname

Hi,

In my V240, i have DNS configured & host file is also updated properly

The problem here is, i am not able to ping the <hostname>

I am able to ping the IP and hostname.domain.com (i.e., hostname with fully qualified domain name )

nslookup <hostname> is working fine.

nsswitch.conf entry is as below
hosts: files dns

hostfile entry as below : ( Tried many ways by changing hosts file entries)
IP_address hostname loghost

resolv.conf file as below :
domain <domain_name>
nameserver <DNS IP>
nameserver <DNS IP>

can anyone help ??
