Persistence Time for Cache

In the RPD -> Physical Layer -> Table properties we can specify the cache persistence time according to our needs i.e hours, days, weeks,

if we set it to 12 hours, when does the time start? Is it from the last time the OBIEE Service was started? From which time onwards is the hours calculated and then cache cleared after the specified time?

Any thoughts?
