PDF Printing from Solaris - best methods?

Currently we print PDFs by converting the PDF to PCL using ghostscript and then use the lp commend to output the PCL file to the printer.

PCL because not all printers accept postscript. The ghostscript conversion takes a while to generate, even for a 1 page doc.

Does anyone have any other/better solutions for printing PDF docs from Solaris? Don't have to stick with lp either if there are better ways and means....it's just the way it's always done it!
