Password Prompt Delay During SSH

cmennensMay 24 2012 — edited May 25 2012
I just installed Oracle Linux 6.2 (64-bit) yesterday to try on our Oracle X6270 server. I'm fairly familiar with RHEL since I'm an RHCT however I did notice one strange thing. When ever I attempt to SSH to this new Oracle 6.2 server, I get IMO an extreme delay being prompted for the login users password. Every Linux server I have on the network is very fast and quick especially when I SSH into it. I simply enter the username and I'm asked for a password instantly. With Oracle 6.2, it's not as fast and the delay is extremely frustrating. I would say it varies from 15 - 20 seconds after you enter a username via the SSH session. Is there anything I can check / verify that would cause this?

All SSH settings in /etc/ssh/sshd_config file are default and have not been modified from their original settings. I've disabled SELinux and 'iptables' however this had to impact.

Any ideas? I installed RHEL 6.2 on the same hardware and not a single moment of hesitation. If I can't resolve this issue, I'll just chalk it up to Oracle Linux still has some bugs to work out and continue using RHEL 6.2.
