Passing value to modal dialog without submitting page

Hi,

I'd like to pass a value P1_NEW from my Page (lets say page 1) to a modal dialog item P2_NEW when a button is pressed.

When submitting the page, branching to the modal dialog, I can access the value, everything works fine.

When I redirect to the modal dialog when the button is pressed, the value is not passed. Is it not possible to hand over parameters from pages which are not submitted or am I missing somethin?
