Partitioning question

Nalla (Nallasivam)Aug 8 2012 — edited Aug 8 2012
Hello All,

I have a table T1 partitioned on an attribute Part_key.

The attribute part_key can have 2 values (W1 and W2) hence my table T1 has 2 partitions.

The business req is that when the table T1 has data for partition W1, there will not be any data for W2 and vice-versa.

Hence T1 always has one partition empty while the other with data.

In this case is a FTS (both partitions) as good as FTS (on 1 partitcular partition).

Which would be better and why ?

This was an interview question so I dont have much SQL/ explain plan to share.

Thanks in advance.
