P2P and Web Services pack

843834Jul 1 2002 — edited Jul 1 2002
How would I use the Web Services pack, specifically RPC, to build a P2P app? It appears that from an API perspective, it would work well: Peer A calling Peer B that exposes a certain service, and vice versa.

But I'm entirely unclear how to do it with the actual implementation classes in the Web Services pack, which seem to be tightly coupled to a client-server, "web-site" centric view of the world. It also isn't obvious to me where one would extend the reference implementation to support a decentralized, low-overhead view of the world (documentation?)

Also, does the Sun-initiated P2P project, JXTA, fit in here somehow? I think the multi-hop possibilities of SOAP (on the higher level) would match what JXTA does (on the lower level) fairly well, and such a marriage would open up intriguing possibilities...

All thoughts by anyone appreciated.
