override look and feel of JTree for one specific instance

our application is using metal L&F. however in our application, we have a tree where we would like to override this L&F to be that of windows.
at the same time, i dont want to have all the tree components to have this L&F. its just at one place where we need to follow windows L&F
to be more precise, we are interested in the +, - connectors (i beilive we cant customize connectors with the renderer) as that is the standard windows L&F for applications like File system etc.
any ideas how to achieve this?
