OUD to AD service account connection

Hi Experts,
As most you are aware Oracle Unified Directory - Proxy server is widely used for Database Single Sign-On. In below link a remote-ldap-server-bind-dn is mentioned.

Does OUD make a connection to AD every time a user authenticates to Database? OR Does OUD make one single persistent connection to AD, it is alive until OUD/AD restarts?
