Oracle8.1.7 on Mandrake Linux

I was able to get through the installation part with the
help from this forum (thanks). Here I am again.

My initial data base configuration fail with a complain on ORACLE_HOME environment variable. I ignore the proces and tried to run dbassist later, I got the same error message. My
ORACLE_HOME environment variable has the same value
for which I passed the installation. If somebody can
give some help, it would be much appreciated.
