Oracle XE, Manifold & MapInfo

Hi all

I am not sure whether this is the right place to post this, or whether in fact anyone will be able to help me, but I figure I might as well give it a shot.

As a little background, I am running Oracle XE and I am interested in using it to store GIS information. The two GIS packages I use are Manifold v 7.0 and MapInfo ver 8.5. Both of these can load spatial data up to the database and each can use their own specific uploaded files. What I would really like to be able to do is make the two interoperable, so I can have one dataset that is able to be edited by both MapInfo and Manifold. I know this is probably more related to the vendors implementation of how they manage the data within Oracle, but I suppose I am wondering if anyone here had any help or guidance in this matter.

I have checked the tables that are uploaded by the two packages and there are some differences in their database implementations, which I won't go into here yet. Manifold can read the files loaded by MapInfo, but has some quirks when it comes to editing the files. MapInfo can't read anything loaded by Manifold but I am not all that worried about that.

So I suppose I am putting a feeler out there for anyone who has ANY experience with this sort of thing and could tell me whether I am dreaming trying to get two different vendors to edit the one set of data. I can go into more details as to what I have discovered so far if people think this could help.

Cheers

James
