Oracle with Vintela

561649Jul 14 2008 — edited Jul 15 2008
Our company is considering installing Vintela on all of our servers in order to have Centralized Unix/Linux Authentication. (one username, one password for each login across 700 servers and roughly 50+ servers with Oracle Databases)

In general, what does Oracle recommend here? (Are there reasons not to use Vintela?)

So far we have actually seen that the Oracle Clustering Software does not autostart after a reboot (because the "oracle" account and "dba" group are not in /etc/passwd and /etc/group, etc. Manually starting the cluster after boot does work. This is due to how Vintella is started vs. how Oracle is started at boot time.)

I also saw a posting in Metalink saying that installing Vintela causes sqlplus to hang (Oracle versions 10.2.0.1 to 10.2.0.3) Note:419285.1. It said that the only workaround here is to uninstall Vintela. Is this no other workaround?

Anyone that has insight here, please share.

Have you gotten Vintela to work nicely with Oracle? What special things did you do to make everything work right? Did you decide not to use Vintela?
