oracle warning:- cannot allocate log archival required

hi masters,

i have one oracle 9i R2 database on windows server 2003 platform.

yesterdayi got an unusual error on server stating that

ORACLE instance orcl-cannot allocate log, archival required required

press <enter> to acknowledge message

what does this message means????

is this operating system error??

has anyone experience dealing with this kind of message??
