Oracle VM vs VM ware vs AIX

oleandreMar 9 2016 — edited Mar 14 2016

Hi there.

I was just asked for advice by some architect without any experience for Oracle VM after I suggested Oracle VM with Oracle DBs instead of the two alteratives 1. VMWare (and MS Sqlserver) and 2. AIX with powerha/or rac one clustering.

I work daily as Oracle DBA and do not know much about Oracle VM, however this architect sent me some questions I really not know what to reply to him.
Here is his mail below (I've translated it before posting it).

1. Oracle VM is based on XenServer.
XenServer was a leading product once, but is now far away from other alternatives like VMware and Microsoft.

Gartner has moved XenServer from "leaders" pre 2013 to "visionary" in 2013, and to the "nice player" in 2014.

Although Oracle has its own variant, but I think this affects its development.

2. There is skepticism to introduce multiple virtualization platform. We need to consolidate.
Today we run our oracle systems on POWER (IBM), and then both must be moved to Oracle VM.
I do not know about our oracle application system is certified to run on Oracle VM, but Intel Xeon seems to be ok.

3. Although, migration our systems to Oracle VM should be possible, we are left with that it represents many changes, extensive testing requirements and limited added value.
In addition, it is unclear how much expertise we have to operate Oracle VM.

Do any of you have any input on what to reply this guy? specially number 1?

Thanks for any input and argument for Oracle VM and Oracle database.
