Oracle VM Live migration on Physical Shared Disks

User_USHVKFeb 24 2012 — edited Mar 11 2012
Hello ,

I have a problem performing live migration of Physical Shared Disks, used as ASM on VM.
The environment is as follows:
2 Oracle VM servers - fiespx197 and fiespx198
1 VM - fiespx0245
1 Share physical disk - ASM49

The disk is presented to both hosts with multipathing:
fiespx197:
ASM49 (3600507680180853ed8000000000014d4) dm-66 IBM,2145
[size=100G][features=1 queue_if_no_path][hwhandler=0][rw]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=200][active]
\_ 3:0:7:12 sdnu 128:256 [active][ready]
\_ 4:0:7:12 sdok 129:256 [active][ready]
\_ 7:0:6:12 sdoy 129:480 [active][ready]
\_ 8:0:0:12 sdpc 130:288 [active][ready]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=40][enabled]
\_ 3:0:3:12 sdnm 71:384 [active][ready]
\_ 4:0:1:12 sdny 128:320 [active][ready]
\_ 7:0:0:12 sdom 129:288 [active][ready]
\_ 8:0:7:12 sdpq 131:256 [active][ready]

fiespx0198:
ASM49 (3600507680180853ed8000000000014d4) dm-5 IBM,2145
[size=100G][features=1 queue_if_no_path][hwhandler=0][rw]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=200][active]
\_ 3:0:7:12 sddg 70:224 [active][ready]
\_ 3:0:15:12 sdhm 133:192 [active][ready]
\_ 7:0:0:12 sdhz 134:144 [active][ready]
\_ 8:0:6:12 sdnr 71:464 [active][ready]
\_ round-robin 0 [prio=40][enabled]
\_ 3:0:1:12 sdad 65:208 [active][ready]
\_ 3:0:11:12 sdfj 130:80 [active][ready]
\_ 8:0:0:12 sdjy 65:448 [active][ready]
\_ 7:0:7:12 sdpy 131:384 [active][ready]

The disk is presented to the VM directly, as Shared Disk over VM manager
fiespx0245:
Disk /dev/xvdc: 107.3 GB, 107374182400 bytes
255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 13054 cylinders
Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes

The problem is that VM is running on 1st host fiespx0197 and I create ASM disk - DATA01 and live migrate the VM to the second host - fiespx0198 , the ASM disk is not visible !
If I create again partition and ASM disk during the time the VM is running on the second host - fiespx0198, lets say DATA02 and migrate back the VM to the fisrst host, the disks is seen again as DATA01.

In other words the partitions are different, depending on the running VM hosts.
the SAN storage is checked and have same ID on both hosts, so it could be mesh with the LUN.
Could this be caused my some sort of cashing on the Oracle VM hosts?

As to Oracle Support , shared physical disks directlly attached to the VMs are not supported by Oracle VM 2.2 !
Any ideas.
Thanks
