oracle sqlplus recover until time

Guess2Nov 17 2011 — edited Dec 1 2011
When I google oracle recovery, all I get is rman... I need to do a manual recovery(and its been since I did this). I have not done this in a while. I found the sqlplus reference with the wire diagram. Before I do it, I want to make sure my command is correct. Is this right?
Then oracle should prompt me for any missing archive logs?

We are taking a BCV copy, then I need to do a manual application of the logs. Its been a while since I have done this.

recovery database until time 'YYYY-MM-DD:HH24:MI:SS';

do i need to do

alter session set nls_date_format='YYYY=MM-DD:HH24:MI:SS';

before I do the recovery?
