Oracle, Sound, Telnet.

questions.
I installed Solaris 8 for intel in my computer.
I have three questions.
Firstly, how to correctly install the Oracle 8i to my system.
When I logged on as a user and tried to install the oracle 8i, I saw this
kind of error message, though the right below error is not the first error
message I got:
"There is no Orainstall or you may have no right to access it"
originally I got several other error messages.
The installer complained that it cannot locate the "orainventory", so I
manually specified the location.
After I did it, it seemed to procced a while, but when it goes to the next
step, it again complained.
And the above error message is the one I encountered at this step.
Actually speaking, I clearly see that the "Orainstall" directories in my
system.
I also see the orainventory. As you might guess,
the reason that I have the orainventory is
that I tried to install this software several times before I see the above
kind of error message.
Of course, whenever I tired to do, I failed to install it.
At first I suspected that the reason of the failure of the installation
resulted from the fact that I, as a user, had no appropriate right to access
the files or directories related to the installtion. So I logged out the
user account and logged on as root (Super-user), and gave the right accsess
to my user account account by adding my user account to the groups of root,
bin, admin, and daemon, but still failed. I also changed the mode of
files/directories to 777 that I guess hinders the proceeding of the
installation. Bur the result was same.
For your reference, the recent error message I got was:
"An error occured while the system was scratching the /tmp/Orainstall, there
is no such files or you may not have the right to access to it".
What do I need to do to install the oracle 8i correctly?
Secondly, how can I configure my sound card?
My card is Yamaha OPL3-SA2.
I previously installed the Open Sound System driver to my system, and it
seemed to detect my card and I no longer saw this kind of error message,
like
"Cannot open the Sound stream"
But it still did not work fine. I tested the sound of my system by opening
the Audio Application.
I typed "sdtaudio" on the command line, and the audio application opened.
However when I tred to listen to my music CD-ROM, it didn't seemd to play.
It didn't show any songs in the CD-ROM, even though
I changed the directory to the /cdrom.
I also found that the CD was not activated as the output devices.
I tried to configure the devices under the Option of the audio application,
but also failed.
Please help me out to configure my sound card.
And can I safely erase the files in the /tmp directories?
Is it safe to delete them or does the deletion of the files under the /tmp
directory causes any error?
Lastly, in a termial or console mode, whenever I try to connect to my telnet server, at first it is connected but it immediately disconnected with the
following error message:
"Connected to ***.***.***(My Telnet Server)
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host."
What does this mean and why this thing happens to me? Any idea for this?
I hope that somebody can answer to my questions as soon as possible.
Thanks for reading me.
Good luck to all all of you.
