I have installed the Solaris 11.4 on my VMware infrastructure, ESXi version 6.5u2, VM is a Oracle Solaris 64 bit VM settings.
The installation is a good success, just found that there is no desktop after installation. So I installed the desktop from the terminal by issuing
pkg install solaris-desktop
and it went well, only had some issue with the domain name, it was looking for a dns name probably. so I ignored it.
Then executed the command startx, and the the desktop appeared, however nothing works, no keyboard, no mouse movement.

although this guide is for sparc, I have edited the file on my x86 based VM, but nothing works. Can anyone help to make them work?
