Oracle Running on vmware - cold backup solution

Hi,

We want to start deploying Oracle 11gR2 (single-instance and RAC) on our new VmWare solution.

I was wondering what is the best practice for backups.

We can always backup the DB using RMAN, running from the virtual machine.

Does someone know if its possible/viable to perform backups of the virtual machine using the VmWare snapshot solution?

For now,lets assume these are cold backups.
